2017 Kenda Cup Series #5
This is a great venue that sits at about 7,000 feet elevation at the starting line and rises to nearly 8,100 feet at the end of the first long, jeep road climb. Both during the pre-ride and the race, I did not feel particularly strong. I rode hard during the race, and I got a good start, but as rider after rider rolled past me on the fire road climb, I could not find the pace or even the motivation to stay with them. I don’t know if I was tired, if it was the elevation, or I was getting a little burned out by all the training, and travel and doing it all solo. I think it was the latter, mostly. Packing and driving and planning and training and juggling all the other stuff made me weary and a little depressed. After 3 wins in a row in this series, I finished 4th.
